(Song for the Goddess of Speech : Kavi-jananī Tvam)Lyrics and Tuning by : Dr. Harekrishna Meher

(Sarasvatī, the Goddess of Speech and Learning is prayed in this lyric.
She is also known as the Goddess of Music. She dispels the murk of
ignorance and spreads the light of wisdom.)
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
The Mother of poets thou art.
Thy abode is in lotus.
Thou art pacifier of mundane sorrows.
Thy figure is of pure fair fragrance. (0)
*
O Goddess Sāradā !
Deign to have thy dwelling in my heart.
O Great among the wise !
Please bestow auspicious thoughts on me.
O Mother Sāradā !
This salutation of mine is at thy sacred feet.
Thou art the extinguisher of sins
and the eradicator of inertia.
Thou art splendidly illustrious. (1)
*
May all the darkness of ignorance
vanish for ever by thy compassion.
With the wealth of thy effulgence,
may my mind illume.
O Goddess Sāradā !
My prostration is at thy auspicious feet.
New poesie thou art.
In the mouth of the learned, you shiningly play.
You enhance all kinds of well-being to the people. (2)
*
You’re Goddess Sarasvatī
worshipped with sacred lotuses.
You form very graceful and nice speech.
The sweet mellifluous tune you are.
O Goddess, the bearer of lute !
O Sāradā ! This prostration of mine is at thy holy feet.
You form the assembly of the noble and wise ones.
You’re dispeller of delusion.
Yours is very delicate sweet smile. (3)
*
I pray. Let my intellect never get nonplussed
at the time of adversity.
Let my step splendid with fullness
of speech proceed forward.
O Goddess Sāradā !
Victory to Thee.
This salutation of mine is at thy noble feet.
Paradise of poetical compositions thou art.
With comely word-compounds, you’re embellished.
You’re the preacher of succinct admonitions. (4)
*
O Ye, Goddess in the form of holy letter ‘OM’ !
Kindly gladden me with endearments.
O Ye, adorned with crystal garlands !
Kindly help me attain the beauteous.
O Goddess Sāradā !
Deign to destroy all my vices.
This prostration of mine is at thy sacred feet.
Thou art the pioneer of prosperity and goodness.
Vivid-visioned, thou art the fair-limbed
Goddess with opulent arts.
Thou art the Mother of poets.
