Song for God Śiva : Tryambakam yajāmahe….
(This lyric forms a prayer with greatness of Lord Śiva
reputed for his Tāņđava Dance.
He is known as Ardha-Nārīśvara God,

the combination of Pārvatī and Īśvara himself.)

OM, the Holy Chant.
We pray and worship the Lord of the three worlds,
the three-eyed God Śiva, the purifier one.
O Lord ! O ye, united with Mother-goddess Pārvatī !
Please be propitiated.
With hearty endearments,
we eulogize thy divine self,
the excellent above the excellents,
O Great Lord ! [0]
*
We worship Lord Śiva,
who is adored by the gods,

is receptacle of all gaieties,

endowed with matted locks on his head,

is Naţarāja, the king of dancers,
is meditated upon by yogins
in their yogic process,
 is served by the devotees,
is luminous Supreme Being in the form of Rudra,
is adorned with all kinds of wealth,
is all-pervading, is scintillating with own luster
and is the bestower of weal of the world. [1]
*Mandākinī (Gańgā), the divine river,
sportively shines on the head of the Lord.
Beloved Pārvatī, the daughter
of the mountain-king Himālaya, is with himself.
We extend hearty prayer
to the auspicious God Śańkara,
whose crest is illuminated with Moon
and who is the destroyer of the world. [2]
*
Yours is the vigorous dance Tāņđava,
induced with the glamorous dance (Lāsya) of Pārvatī.
Thy Tāņđava is glorified with thy eight forms
(water, oblation, sacrifice-performer,
Sun, Moon, sound, earth and air)
and has annihilated the wicked demons.
O Lord ! We heartily pray thee, the beauteous God,
the destroyer of three lands of demons,
and the repository of happiness. [3]*
We pray Lord Bhava, the source of all,
who has bull as his vehicle,
who wields the bow Pināka,
is the controller of all the beings,
has dambaru as his musical instrument,
is attractive and is the bearer of trident.
O Lord having hairs spread over all the firmament !
we pray and worship thee,
the bearer of necklace of serpents,
the ocean of energies
and is clad with directions, so omnipresent. [4]*
We pray thee, the auspicious God,
who is the giver of celestial enjoyments,
who is the head among the Pramatha group,
who has subdued the flower-shafted Love-god Kāmadeva,
who is black-throated
and is white-bodied with dusts of pyres.
O Lord propitiated soon !
We sweetly pray thee, the Lord of Kailāsa mountain
and the stream of ambrosia. [5]*
O Lord of the universe ! we pray thee,
the eternal god who is the effulgent light
in the hearts of the devotees,
is benevolent giver of welfare and salvation,
is eradicater of all sins and is famous
as Mahākāla, the supreme destroyer.
We worship thee, Śiva,
known with sincere devotion
and endowed with noble letters. [6]*
We render prostrations to thee,
the supreme saviour,
who is the abater of all terrestrial diseases,
is great among the yogins, is compassionate,
has pulverized the pride of Daksha
and is the holder of all universe.
O Lord ! kindly forgive all our faults.
We pray thee, the imperishable one,
the dispeller of all evils,
and the three-visioned God. [7]
